Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Bolton Wanderers and Wycombe Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Bolton Wanderers will be bidding to return to winning ways in League One when they welcome an in-form Wycombe Wanderers to the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Tuesday night.

The home side are currently third in the table, seven points behind the leaders Portsmouth, while Wycombe sit 15th, now six points clear of the relegation zone due to their recent strong form.

Bolton were beaten in the semi-finals of the League One playoffs last season, but they are in the mix for possible promotion again, currently sitting third in the table.

The Trotters have won 18, drawn five and lost six of their 29 league matches this term to collect 59 points, which has left them one point behind second-placed Derby County and seven from the leaders Portsmouth.

Bolton are also seven points ahead of seventh-placed Oxford United, but they have been held to draws by Barnsley and Northampton Town in their last two matches, with the team's last success in the third tier proving to be a 4-1 success at Carlisle United on January 27.

Ian Evatt's side have the second-best home record in League One this season, picking up 32 points from 15 matches, but Wycombe have been solid on their travels, claiming 17 points from 15 games.

Bolton will be looking to do the league double over Wycombe this season, having recorded a 4-2 victory when the two teams locked horns for the reverse fixture back in October.

Wycombe, meanwhile, will enter this match off the back of a stunning 5-2 success over Peterborough United on Saturday, which made it three straight wins in all competitions.

The Blues are in the semi-finals of the EFL Trophy, with Bradford City their opponents later this month, while they also won their last away game in League One - a 3-1 victory over Cheltenham Town on February 3.

Wycombe, who finished ninth in League One last season, are currently 15th in the table, boasting a record of nine wins, 10 draws and 11 defeats from 30 matches to collect 37 points.

Matt Bloomfield's side are six points clear of the relegation zone, and they have two more league games against Bolton and Oxford United before taking on Bradford City in the EFL Trophy.

Wycombe have actually won two of their last four League One games against Bolton, including a 2-0 victory in the away fixture during the 2021-22 campaign, and they are the form team entering this contest.

Team News

Bolton will be without the services of George Thomason on Tuesday, with the midfielder suspended due to the red card that he was handed in the 1-1 draw with Northampton on Saturday.

As a result, there is likely to be a start for Carlos Gomes, who scored Bolton's leveller against Northampton when appearing off the bench.

Victor Adeboyejo has scored eight times in the league this season, and he is expected to be fit to start despite being replaced at the interval of the team's last match.

Wycombe, meanwhile, have not reported any fresh fitness concerns from their win over Peterborough.

The visitors are once again expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with 19-year-old Richard Kone set to be given the nod in the final third of the field.

David Wheeler scored off the bench against Peterborough, but the 33-year-old is expected to be named on the bench for the first whistle, with Sam Vokes also likely to be among the substitutes for the away side.

Bolton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Coleman; Jones, Taylor, Toal; Ramsay, Sheehan, Gomes, Dempsey, Ashworth; Adeboyejo, Charles

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Stryjek; Grimmer, Low, Tafazolli, Vincent-Young; Potts, Butcher; McCleary, Taylor, Sadlier; Kone

We say: Bolton Wanderers 2-1 Wycombe Wanderers

Bolton need to return to winning ways as they bid to move into the top two, but this will be a tough test against an improving Wycombe outfit. We are expecting a close game on Tuesday evening but are tipping the home side to navigate their way to an important three points.
